WooCommerce to Shopify migration service
We move a WooCommerce store's products, customers, past orders, pages, blog posts and redirects into a Shopify store, by the import routes Shopify documents. For store owners who have decided to leave WooCommerce and have a Shopify theme in mind.
In short
- Products, customers, past orders, pages, blog posts and redirects are moved by the routes Shopify documents.
- The store arrives on a Shopify theme you choose. We do not design or customize Shopify themes, and we do not build Shopify apps.
- Customer passwords do not move. Shopify says they cannot be migrated from another store.
- Every old WooCommerce address is redirected to its new one, and the redirects are checked.
- It starts with a free assessment and a fixed quote in writing.
- Slow pages, plugin conflicts and update work can often be fixed without moving.
WooCommerce is a plugin on a WordPress site, on hosting you chose. Shopify hosts the store on its own servers. Nothing copies one into the other whole. The store's records are exported from WooCommerce and brought into Shopify by the routes Shopify documents, and the rest is set up again.
WP Ministry is a WordPress company, so here is our part, exactly. We move the store's products, customers, past orders, pages, blog posts and redirects. The store arrives on a Shopify theme you choose. We do not design or customize Shopify themes, and we do not build Shopify apps.
This is for store owners who have decided to leave. If the reason is slow pages, plugin conflicts or the work of keeping the store updated, those can often be fixed without moving. That is what WooCommerce maintenance is for, and when to switch between WooCommerce and Shopify sets out the decision in both directions. To do the move yourself, follow how to migrate from WooCommerce to Shopify.
What moves, and what is rebuilt
| What | How it gets there | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Products | WooCommerce's CSV export, reshaped to Shopify's columns and imported in the Shopify admin | Shopify downloads each product image and stores its own copy. Its guide says a product can have three options, and that a product with more does not have its options imported. |
| Customers | A CSV file that follows Shopify's customer template | Passwords never move between platforms. Shopify says they cannot be migrated from another store. |
| Past orders | A migration app from the Shopify App Store, or Shopify's order API | Shopify lists no CSV import for past orders. The assessment names the route for your store. |
| Pages and blog posts | A migration app, Shopify's page and blog APIs, or by hand on a small site | The words and images are moved. The layout comes from the Shopify theme. |
| Coupons | Set up again as discounts in the Shopify admin | Not on Shopify's list of data that moves in bulk. |
| Plugins and extensions | Each one matched to a Shopify feature or an app, or left out | That includes reviews, subscriptions, memberships and bookings. Each is named in the assessment. |
| Design | A Shopify theme you choose | A WordPress theme does not run on Shopify. The design is not copied. |
| Shipping, taxes and payments | Not imported | Settings you make in the Shopify admin. Shopify's migration guide covers each. |
| Addresses | Each old address redirected to its new one, from a list imported into Shopify | Shopify's address patterns are fixed, so most addresses change. |
What happens to your old addresses
Shopify's own guide says old links to specific pages likely will not load after a move, because its address structure is different.
| In WooCommerce, by default | In Shopify |
|---|---|
example.com/product/hoodie-with-logo for a product | Under example.com/products/, a path Shopify fixes |
example.com/product-category/accessories for a category | Under example.com/collections/, also fixed |
| A page, at the address your permalink settings give it | Under example.com/pages/ |
| A blog post, at the address your permalink settings give it | Under example.com/blogs/ and the name of the blog |
WooCommerce lets a store change those bases, so we work from the addresses your store answers at. Each old address is matched to its new one, and the list is imported into Shopify as redirects. The list is checked against the new store before the domain is changed. Shopify answers for your addresses only once the domain points at it, so each redirect is tested as soon as it does.
One limit is Shopify's. It says it cannot redirect an address that begins with /shop, /cart, /orders, /services or /apps. With WooCommerce's "Shop base" setting, product addresses begin with the shop page's name, which is /shop unless it was changed. The assessment tells you about any such addresses before you decide.
How it works
Step 1: Ask for a free migration assessment
Tell us on the migration assessment page that you are on WooCommerce and moving to Shopify, and roughly how big the store is: how many products and orders, and which plugins it relies on.
Step 2: Get a written list and a fixed quote
We reply in writing with what moves by itself, what has to be rebuilt, and a fixed quote. Whether to go ahead is up to you.
Step 3: The Shopify store is filled while WooCommerce stays live
You open the Shopify store and choose its theme. Shopify keeps a new store private by default, hidden from visitors and search engines. Your WooCommerce store keeps serving customers while the data is brought in.
Step 4: Old addresses are mapped and the redirects checked
Each WooCommerce address is matched to its new Shopify address, and the list is checked against the new store. Each redirect is tested as soon as the domain points at Shopify.
Step 5: You look at the new store
The domain is changed only after that.
What it does not cover
- Shopify theme design or customization. The store arrives on the theme you chose, as that theme lays it out. We do not design Shopify themes or change their code.
- Shopify apps. We do not build them. Where a plugin's job needs an app, the assessment says so and the choice of app is yours.
- Fees. The Shopify plan, a paid theme, any app and your payment provider's charges are yours.
- Email. Mailboxes kept at your WordPress host are not moved. Find out where your mail lives before you cancel that hosting.
- Looking after the Shopify store afterwards. We maintain WordPress and WooCommerce sites, not Shopify stores.
Moves from other platforms are on the migrations page.
What it costs
Platform migration
Ask us for a quote
Moving a site or a store from one platform to another, with its old addresses redirected to the new ones.
- A written list of what moves and what is rebuilt, before you decide
- Old addresses redirected to the new ones, and checked
- The new site checked before the domain is changed
Common questions
Will my customers have to make new accounts?
Their records move. Their passwords do not. On Shopify's current customer accounts a customer enters an email address and receives a six-digit code, so no password is needed.
Will my store go offline during the move?
Your WooCommerce store keeps taking orders while the Shopify store is filled. Shopify says a DNS change usually takes effect within two hours and can take up to two days. Keep the WooCommerce hosting until the Shopify store has been serving customers without trouble.
Will my search rankings stay the same?
Nobody can promise that. What protects them is that every old address leads to its new page. That is what the redirects are for. The list is checked before the domain is changed, and each redirect is tested as soon as the domain points at Shopify.
What do you need from me?
An administrator login for the WordPress site, a staff login on the Shopify store, and access to wherever the domain is managed. You open the Shopify store yourself, so the account and its billing are yours.
