Cookies and what this site keeps in your browser

This site sets no cookies of its own. It keeps up to four small items in your browser's storage, one only after a yes to measurement and one only if you ask us to remember a referral code. A yes also loads Google Analytics, which sets two cookies. Nothing from another company loads before that.

Updated

This page lists everything wpministry.co keeps in your browser, and what changes when you answer the question about measurement.

What the site itself keeps

The site sets no cookies of its own. It uses your browser's storage for four things.

NameWhereWhat it is forKeptNeeds your yes
themeLocal storageRemembers whether you chose the light or the dark theme.Until you clear it.No
wpm:consentLocal storageRemembers your answer about measurement, so you are not asked again.Until you clear it.No
wpm:referralLocal storageA referral code you asked us to use, so it is applied when you write to us or buy without your typing it again. For 60 days, or until you remove it.No
wpm:visitSession storageThe page you arrived on, the site you came from and the pages you looked at, so that if you write to us we can tell what helped.Until you close the tab.Yes

The first two are needed to do what you asked: show the theme you chose, and stop asking a question you have answered. The third is kept only when you press the button that asks us to use a referral code, and a button beside it removes it. The fourth is kept only after you say yes to measurement.

The question about measurement

The first time you visit, the site asks whether we may measure how it is used. Both answers are given the same weight, and the site works the same either way.

  • If you say no, nothing is kept beyond the first two items above, and a referral code if you asked for one to be used. Nothing from another company is loaded.
  • If you say yes, the site keeps the fourth item for this visit and loads Google Tag Manager, a script from Google. The only thing we have set it to load is Google Analytics.

A page that is one person's own, such as a referrer's account page, is never measured, whatever you answered.

What Google Analytics sets

Google Analytics sets two cookies. Both are set on wpministry.co itself and not on a domain of Google's.

NameWhat Google says it is forHow long Google says it lasts
_ga"Used to distinguish users."2 years
_ga_ followed by letters and numbers"Used to persist session state."2 years

The lengths are Google's defaults, which we have not changed. Google notes that a browser can end them sooner: it gives 400 days as the most Chrome keeps such a cookie, and 7 days for Safari, when you do not come back.

What Google Analytics is sent

  • The address of each page you open on this site, and the address of the page that led you to it.
  • What browser and device you use, and the language it is set to.
  • Roughly where you are. Google works this out from your IP address, down to a city at the closest. Google says it does not log or store the IP addresses of people in the European Union, Switzerland or the United Kingdom.
  • Five things you may do here: press a button that leads to a form or to checkout, start a form, send a form, copy a block of code, and use a tool. Each is sent with which service, form or tool it was, and never with what you typed.

What we measure never includes your name, your email address, your site's address, or the words of a message or a search.

We use Google Analytics to count visits and to see which pages lead people to write to us, and for nothing else. The property is not linked to an advertising account, and the setting that lets Google join a visit to a signed-in Google account, which it calls Google signals, is off.

Google keeps the records that are tied to those cookies for 2 months, the shorter of the two periods it offers, and then deletes them. Totals that name no browser, such as how many times a page was opened in a month, stay in its reports.

Changing your answer

Press "Change measurement choice" at the foot of any page. The question is asked again and your new answer replaces the old one.

A no given after a yes stops the measurement at once: the page is drawn again with nothing of Google's loaded, and the note of your visit is removed. It does not delete the two Google Analytics cookies already in your browser, because this site's own code never writes or removes a cookie. Clear this site's cookies in your browser's settings to remove them.
