Wix to WordPress migration service

We rebuild your Wix site in WordPress, carry its content across, and redirect every old Wix address to its new one. For site owners leaving Wix, which has no export for a whole site.

In short

  • Wix has no export for a whole site, so the pages are rebuilt in WordPress.
  • Your text and images are carried across. Products, contacts and orders leave Wix as CSV files.
  • Every old Wix address is redirected to its new one, and the redirects are checked.
  • It starts with a free assessment and a fixed quote in writing.
  • Your Wix site stays live until you have looked at the new one.

A move from Wix to WordPress is not a copy. Wix's help center says a Wix site is built with Wix's own technology and has to be hosted on Wix's servers, and that blog posts cannot be exported to other platforms. No file holds the whole site.

So this service is a rebuild with your content in it. We build your pages again in WordPress, carry your text, images and posts across, bring in what Wix does export, and redirect every old Wix address to its new one.

It is for site owners who have decided to leave Wix and do not want to copy a site across page by page. If you would rather do the work yourself, how to migrate from Wix to WordPress sets out each step.

What moves, and what is rebuilt

WhatHow it gets thereNotes
PagesRebuilt in WordPress, with your text and images carried acrossWix has no export for pages.
Blog postsCarried across as WordPress postsWix says posts cannot be exported. Its RSS feed shows no more than 20.
Images and videoDownloaded from Wix and uploaded to WordPressWix's free stock media cannot be downloaded, so a page that uses one needs a new image.
ProductsExported from Wix as a CSV file and imported into WooCommerceWix's export leaves out digital products. Those are added by hand.
Customers and contactsExported from Wix as a CSV filePasswords never move between platforms. Customers and members set a new one.
OrdersExported from Wix as a CSV fileThe CSV tool built into WooCommerce is for products. The assessment says whether past orders are imported or kept as a file.
BookingsSet up again in WordPressWix exports a list of bookings. It says the configuration of services cannot be exported.
FormsRebuilt in WordPressPast submissions leave Wix as a CSV file.
AppsEach one matched to a WordPress plugin, or left outListed one by one in the assessment.
DesignRebuilt in WordPress to match what you haveA Wix template works only on Wix. The design is rebuilt, not copied.
DomainStays yoursA domain bought from Wix can be pointed at the new site from Wix's DNS settings, or transferred to another registrar.

What happens to your old addresses

Search engines and other sites link to your Wix addresses. Each one has to lead somewhere on the new site.

On Wix, by defaultIn WordPress
example.com/about for a pageThe same address, when the page keeps its slug
example.com/post/post-title for a blog postSet by the permalink structure you choose
example.com/product-page/product-name for a productexample.com/product/product-name, WooCommerce's default

Wix lets a site rename those prefixes, so we work from the addresses your site answers at, not from the defaults. A page that can keep its address keeps it. Every other old address is redirected to its new page.

Once the domain points at the new site, Wix no longer answers for those addresses. The redirects are made on the WordPress site, and they are checked before the domain is changed.

How it works

  1. Step 1: Ask for a free migration assessment

Tell us on the migration assessment page that you are on Wix and moving to WordPress, and roughly how big the site is: how many pages and posts, and whether it has a store or bookings.

  2. Step 2: Get a written list and a fixed quote

We reply in writing with what moves by itself, what has to be rebuilt, and a fixed quote. Whether to go ahead is up to you.

  3. Step 3: The new site is built on a staging copy

Your Wix site stays live and unchanged while this happens.

  4. Step 4: Old addresses are mapped and the redirects checked

Each Wix address is matched to its new page, and each redirect is checked.

  5. Step 5: You look at the new site

The domain is changed only after that.

What it does not cover

  • Hosting and Wix's fees. You buy the hosting for the WordPress site. Your Wix plan is yours to cancel. Wix says canceling a plan does not cancel a domain or a business email subscription held there.
  • Email. Mailboxes are not moved. If the domain is transferred away from Wix, Wix says the mail records have to be added again afterwards for business email to work.
  • New design work. The service rebuilds the design you have. A new look is a separate job: see design and development.
  • Looking after the site afterwards. Updates, backups and monitoring are a care plan. See WordPress maintenance.

Moves from other platforms are on the migrations page.

Common questions

Can you export my Wix site and import it into WordPress?

No, and nobody can. Wix says a Wix site cannot be exported to another host. What Wix does export are lists: products, contacts, orders, bookings and form submissions, each as a CSV file. Everything else is rebuilt.

Will my site go offline during the move?

Your Wix site keeps serving visitors while the new one is built. After any DNS change, some visitors still reach the old site for a while, until the change has spread. Keep the Wix site in place until the new one has been serving visitors without trouble.

Will my search rankings stay the same?

Nobody can promise that. What protects them is that every old address leads to its new page. That is what the redirects are for, and each one is checked before the domain is changed.

Should I cancel my Wix plan first?

No. Wix says that when a plan ends, the site's address reverts to the free Wix one and Wix ads appear on it. Keep the plan until the new site is live on your domain.

Would you rather we moved it?

Moving a site or a store from one platform to another, with its old addresses redirected to the new ones. Quoted in writing after a free assessment of what moves by itself and what has to be rebuilt. The assessment is free.
