WordPress Backup Service — Daily Backups, Instant Recovery

Your WordPress site contains data that took months or years to create. Blog posts, product listings, customer orders, form submissions, configuration settings, custom designs, uploaded media — all of it stored in files and a database that can be destroyed in seconds by a failed update, a hacking incident, a server crash, or an accidental deletion.

Without reliable backups, recovery is somewhere between extremely difficult and completely impossible. With reliable backups, recovery takes minutes.

WP Ministry’s backup service automates the entire process. Every site on a care plan gets daily full-site backups stored on secure, off-site servers — completely separate from your hosting environment. If anything goes wrong, we restore your site to any saved point within minutes. You never lose more than one day of changes. On our Business and WooCommerce plans, twice-daily backups cut that window to 12 hours.

What Gets Backed Up

Our backups are comprehensive. We do not just back up your database and hope for the best. We capture your entire WordPress installation:

The WordPress database. This is where WordPress stores the content that makes your site yours — every post, every page, every comment, every setting, every user account, every WooCommerce order, every form submission. A database backup alone is sufficient to recreate your content from scratch on a fresh WordPress installation. It is the single most critical component of any backup strategy.

All theme files. Your active theme and any installed themes, including customisations. If you have modified your theme’s files — added custom templates, adjusted functions.php, modified CSS — those changes are captured.

All plugin files. Every installed plugin, including their configuration data. While plugins can be re-downloaded from WordPress.org or their vendors, having them in your backup means a restore is instant — no need to reinstall and reconfigure each one.

The uploads directory. Every image, document, video, PDF, and media file you have uploaded to your WordPress media library. For media-heavy sites, this is often the largest component of the backup. For WooCommerce stores, this includes product images — the visual foundation of your catalogue.

Configuration files. Your wp-config.php (containing database credentials, security keys, and WordPress configuration constants), .htaccess (containing URL rewrite rules, redirects, and server-level directives), and any other root-level configuration files that affect how your site functions.

Where Backups Are Stored

Backups stored on the same server as your website are not real backups. If the server fails, if the hosting account is compromised, if the data centre experiences a physical disaster — your backups go down with your site. This is one of the most common and most dangerous backup mistakes WordPress site owners make.

WP Ministry stores all backups off-site on secure, geographically redundant infrastructure. Your backups are physically separate from your hosting environment. If your host goes down, if your server is wiped, if your account is suspended — your backup data remains safe and immediately accessible to our team for restoration.

Backup data is encrypted in transit (during the transfer from your server to our backup infrastructure) and encrypted at rest (while stored on our servers). This protects sensitive data — customer information, user credentials, payment records — from unauthorised access even in the unlikely event of a storage-level breach.

Backup Retention by Plan

Backup retention determines how far back in time you can restore. Longer retention means more recovery options — particularly valuable when an issue is not discovered immediately.

Starter plan ($35/month): 30-day retention. Daily backups are retained for one full month. You can restore to any day within the last 30 days. This covers most common scenarios: a bad update you notice within a few days, an accidental deletion you catch within a week, or a hack that you discover within the month.

Pro plan ($79/month): 90-day retention. Three months of daily backups. This extended retention is valuable for sites where issues may not surface quickly — a database corruption that happened weeks ago, a piece of content that was accidentally modified without anyone noticing, or a security compromise that went undetected for an extended period.

Business plan ($149/month): 120-day retention with twice-daily backups. Four months of backup history, with backups taken every 12 hours. For high-activity sites — blogs publishing daily, WooCommerce stores processing dozens of orders, sites with user-generated content — twice-daily backups mean you never lose more than half a day of changes in a worst-case scenario.

WooCommerce plan ($249/month): 120-day retention with twice-daily backups. The same 120-day, twice-daily backup schedule as the Business plan, with additional attention to WooCommerce-specific data. Order history, customer accounts, subscription data, and transaction logs are business-critical assets — often with legal and regulatory implications. Our WooCommerce backups ensure this data is recoverable from any point in the last four months.

How Restoration Works

When you need a restore — whether it is a full site restore or a partial restore of specific components — our team handles the entire process. You tell us what went wrong and when you think it happened. We identify the most appropriate backup point. We restore on a staging environment first (for Business and WooCommerce plans) so you can verify the restored version before it goes live. Then we deploy the restoration to your live site.

Full restores — bringing your entire site back to a specific point in time — are the simplest case. But we also handle partial restores: restoring just the database (to recover lost content without overwriting recently uploaded media), restoring specific database tables (to recover WooCommerce orders without affecting your posts or settings), or restoring specific files (to recover a deleted theme file without rolling back everything else).

Most restorations are completed within 30–60 minutes of the decision to restore. For sites with very large databases or media libraries, restoration may take longer, but we communicate timeline expectations before beginning.

When Backups Save Your Business

Backups are not valuable in theory. They are valuable in the specific, concrete, often stressful moments when something goes wrong:

A failed plugin update breaks your checkout. Your WooCommerce store was processing orders fine until you updated a shipping plugin. Now the checkout page throws a fatal error. Without a backup, you are scrambling to debug the conflict while losing sales every minute. With a backup, we restore your site to the pre-update state in minutes, then investigate and resolve the conflict safely on a staging environment. Learn more about safe WordPress updates.

A team member accidentally deletes critical pages. Someone in your organisation accidentally deleted your pricing page, your about page, and three product categories while trying to clean up the WordPress admin. The changes were saved. The pages are gone. Without a backup, you are rebuilding them from memory. With a backup, we restore the deleted content within minutes.

Your site gets hacked. Malware is injected across dozens of files. Your database contains malicious code. Google has blacklisted your site. The cleanup process with our malware removal service is thorough, but having a clean pre-infection backup gives us the option to restore quickly and then harden — rather than manually cleaning every infected file.

Your hosting provider has a catastrophic failure. Server hardware fails. The data centre experiences an outage. Your hosting account data is corrupted or lost. It happens — even to good hosts. Off-site backups mean your site can be rebuilt on any hosting environment within hours, regardless of what happens to your current host.

You discover a problem weeks after it started. A misconfigured plugin has been silently corrupting your database for three weeks. A spam injection has been building hidden pages on your site for a month. With 30, 90, or 120 days of backup retention, you can go back to a clean state even when problems are not discovered immediately.

Why Our Backup Service Is Better Than DIY

Yes, you can install a free backup plugin like UpdraftPlus or BlogVault and set up your own automated backups. Many site owners do exactly this. And for some, it works fine — until it does not.

The most common failure points with DIY backups are storage failures (backups saved to the same server as your site, or to a personal Google Drive that runs out of space), silent failures (the backup plugin stops working after an update and nobody notices for weeks), incomplete backups (the plugin backs up the database but not the uploads folder, or misses configuration files), untested restores (backups exist but nobody has ever verified they can actually be restored — and when the moment comes, they are corrupted or incomplete), and no one to perform the restore (the backup exists, but the site owner does not know how to use it under pressure, at 2 AM, with their site down and customers complaining).

WP Ministry eliminates all of these failure points. Our backup system is monitored by our engineering team. Failed backups are detected and remediated immediately. Backups are stored on dedicated, managed infrastructure with redundancy. And when you need a restore, our 24/7 team performs it for you — quickly, correctly, and completely.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I request a backup at a specific time?

Our automated backups run on a fixed daily schedule (or twice-daily for Business and WooCommerce plans). If you need an on-demand backup before making a major change to your site — such as a risky plugin update, a theme switch, or a content migration — contact our support team and we will take a manual backup immediately.

How long does a restore take?

Most restorations are completed within 30–60 minutes. Very large sites (databases over 1 GB or media libraries over 10 GB) may take longer. We communicate expected timelines before beginning the restore.

Can I download a copy of my backup?

Yes. You can request a downloadable copy of any available backup through our support team. We will provide a secure download link for the backup archive.

What happens to my backups if I cancel my plan?

If you cancel your care plan, we retain your backups for 30 days after cancellation. During this period, you can request a final downloadable copy. After 30 days, backups are permanently deleted from our systems.

Every Plan Includes Daily Backups

You do not need to buy backups separately or add them as an extra. Every WP Ministry care plan includes automated daily backups with off-site storage — starting at $35/month for the Starter plan with 30-day retention, up to the WooCommerce plan with twice-daily backups and 120-day retention.

Do not gamble with your data. Do not assume your host has you covered. Do not rely on a backup plugin you set up two years ago and have not checked since.

Choose a care plan and know that your WordPress site’s data is backed up, stored securely, and instantly recoverable — every single day.
